An Unavoidable Reality

Pressure grows every year for governments and economic players to take action to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) – the major culprit behind climate change. Most of this pressure is directed at industrial activity and the transport sector, identified as the main GHG emitters. Reducing or even eliminating carbon emissions is the key challenge that our industry faces in the coming decades. Although the task is considerable, there are signs that fundamental change is underway.

With its electricity-powered casting furnaces, AMT becomes one of the world’s lowest-GHG-emitting foundries.

AMT’s Efforts

AMT anticipated this shift several years ago and has now completed an energy transition we call “Zero Carbon Melting”.

Our carbon footprint has been reduced significantly by replacing all our fossil fuel furnaces with renewable electricity furnaces. All our manufacturing operations now use renewable electric power, making AMT one of the lowest GHG-emitting foundries in the world.

We estimate this reduction at over 3,000 tonnes of GHG per year. This is a tremendous effort and a meaningful step towards protecting the environment. By way of comparison, this is equivalent to taking the emissions of nearly 1,000 gasoline-powered cars off the road every year.
